TNNA Columbus 2010

Saturday, June 19th, 2010

June 10-15th, we headed to Columbus, OH for our annual June TNNA show.  Here are some photos to help recap some of the events of the weekend.

Our new tradeshow booth was a breeze to assemble, thanks to the help of the Namaste team.  Here’s Mama Toni and I glad to be finished setting up the booth.  We’re ready for our first day at the show.

And here’s Joe :)

Joe getting ready for the weekend. As the weekend went on, we asked some TNNA attendees if they would be so kind as to let us photograph them with their Namaste gear in action.  Here is our friend from The Yarn Patch, we spotted her walking around the tradeshow floor with her Hollywood Pink Zuma.  She wears it well, thanks for stopping by and saying hi!

Steven Berg & crew from Yarn Garage & StevenBe are always so much fun to see:).  Steven and I had fun hamming it up with the popular Monroe bag, and showing off our new patterns for a small accessory pouch.  We call the print “Lola” because it’s got tiny little hedgehogs on it, which remind us of the face of our little dog Lola, and it comes in either the pink or the green color scheme.  Complete photography for the “Lola pouch” will be coming soon.  Thanks for delighting our senses with all of your fantastic sweaters Steven, keep up the amazing work.

We’re all back at Namaste headquarters again and it’s been busy; “all hands on deck”, as we like to say.  We just got another shipment of Monroe bags, Oh Snap! pouches, and the new Lola pouches into stock.  The weather is getting warm here in Southern CA and we’re ready for summer :) .

Introducing the Urban Collection

Friday, June 11th, 2010

Since we launched in 2004, we’ve worked hard to provide an ever-expanding collection of products that meet the needs of knitters and crafters as well as travelers, business people and busy moms, which is why we’re so excited about our brand new Urban Collection! We’re launching the collection at TNNA’s NeedleArts Market June 12 – 14, 2010 in Columbus, Ohio and can’t wait to see the reaction.

Designed to appeal to men and women, the Urban Collection debuts with two unisex styles — the Messenger Bag and the Hip Holster — constructed of durable, PVC free materials that are animal friendly and luggage quality. The larger of the two bags in the collection, the Messenger Bag features an interior lined with padding to protect cell phones, tech gadgets and laptops and features gun metal accents and adjustable shoulder straps to make the bag ideal for work, school and travel.

The unique Hip Holster bag features a unisex design and urban sensibility.  With dual functions as a belt attachment and a shoulder bag with an adjustable shoulder strap, the Hip Holster is made from luggage-grade nylon canvas for extra durability, making it ideal for airport and city travel and people “on the go.”  Designed with the needs of knitters in mind, the Hip Holster easily organizes and transports small projects or gadgets including wallets, cell phones or passports.

Both bags will be available in two colors, peacock and black. The Messenger Bag will retail between $69 and $79 and the Hip Holster between $39 and $45 and will be available online and at retailers nationwide in early July.

A Closer Look at Istanbul

Tuesday, June 8th, 2010

After we shared the pictures from our photo shoot in Istanbul, Turkey we thought we should share some pictures of the Istanbul scenery.  My sister lives in Istanbul and I’ve been to visit her at least once a year over the past seven years and have always been inspired by the culture, the people, the architecture, the food, the animals, and the sense of community in such a big city.  Here are a few of my favorite pictures from my trip:

During the most recent trip, I got to try my hand at working from Istanbul, as I would be staying over a month and the plans for the future include spending more time there.  What I found was that with daily Skype calls, I could stay completely connected to the Namaste operations in LA.  Since my trip I’ve been awestruck when I reflect on the power of technology to connect humans and activities.  Even while staying in Istanbul, I was still able to take care of the day to day requirements as an owner of Namaste.  I couldn’t do it without the support of my unbelievably supportive and generous business partner Dawn, and the phenomenal employees that make up our Namaste family.  For that I am immeasurably grateful.

A Sneak Peek

Friday, June 4th, 2010
I recently got to spend more than a month in Turkey visiting my husband Clint, who is working on commercials there, and visiting my sister and her husband who live in Istanbul, Turkey. (Dawn, my sister-in-law and Namaste business partner, also came to visit for a week so it was a family affair!)

During my visit, we decided Istanbul would be the perfect location for the photo shoot for Namaste’s brand new Urban Collection. Our shoot in Istanbul was fantastic and we wanted to give you all a sneak peak at it and tell you about our experience.

Our very talented photographer, my husband Clint, had a dual role during this shoot: he also played the role of male model.  It was funny because it was just the two of us doing the photo shoot.  Clint would set up the camera, take practice shots with me in the pose, and replace me as the model while I pressed the button. :)

During our photo shoot we also got to meet a super sweet dog that lives in the neighborhood we occupied during the Hip Holster shoot.  While I was posing for a shot, he slowly came over, licked my hand, and lay down at my feet until we left.  As most of our customers know, everyone at Namaste LOVES animals so this was definitely a treat for me.  The dogs that live on the streets in Turkey are mostly a mix of a Turkish breed called a Kangal.  They are big and goofy, always claim a usual sleeping or eating place where their “neighbors” spoil them with doghouses, beds, fresh food, water & of course lots of attention.  The stray animals are well cared for Turkey.  Spending time in Istanbul I got to know each neighborhood’s Kangal whether it be by their sleeping spot in the sun, their wagging tail, or their methods of waiting patiently in front of the apartment buildings that would provide the best meals.

All in all, it was fun, but it’s not over.  Clint is home from Turkey now and it’s time for us to get in another photo shoot so we can have complete photography of the brand new collection. Stay tuned –we can’t wait for all of you to see the new collection!
